Freel trying to return in September: According to The Sports Xchange notes: Like a long-running Broadway drama -- or, maybe, a dark comedy -- Ryan Freel's script never changes. The hard-playing Reds utility man has been on the DL with a torn right hamstring tendon that required surgery to repair. He is hoping to be back this season, perhaps by the time rosters are expanded Sept. 1. He has been doing agility drills, but he hadn't started running yet. "The next couple of weeks are kind of crucial, I guess, in determining whether I'll be coming back, but I feel real good," said Freel, who was hitting .298 with six stolen bases when he was injured. This trip to the DL is the sixth for the hyperactive Freel since he joined the Reds before the 2002 season.

We like Freel's desire, but we don't like his chances of returning this year still -- especially since his legs are what makes him tick as a baseball player and a Fantasy option. Consider him nothing more than low-end DL stashee in the deepest of leagues at this point.
